| engobed |
Is a color application in which some clay is dissolved in
lots of water and color pigments are added. This solution is sprayed onto
the tile and is burned in, to form a permanent bond with the
clay tile surface. This is used for example: to create different shaded tiles like
artificially aged looking tiles. We also use this process on solid colored
tiles. The effect
can range from a dull looking matt finish to a very high glossy one,
nearly as shiny as a glaze. |
| glaze |
Is a color application in which recycled glass granulates
with color pigments are melted on the tile surface to form a permanent
bond. This surface is very shiny and attractive. It is available in a
wide variety of colors. |
| frost proof |
Our tiles have been extensively tested against a wide
variety of nature's furies. One of the harshest tests is the freeze-thaw
test, in which the tile is soaked in water under high pressure. Then it is
placed in a freezer to be frozen for several hours at very deep
temperatures. After this it is heated up again. This test is performed in a
continuous
cycle for a minimum 150 freeze-thaw cycles. Only after surviving them all is the tile
deemed frost proof. |
| water impermeability |
A tile is picked out of the current production and placed in
a pressure tank. It is pressurized to force the water into its pores. Our
tiles well exceed the current standard for water impermeability which is set
for clay tiles at a maximum of 0.8%. Our tiles are at 0.6%. Just to
compare, concrete tiles are between 12% and 15%. |
| special tile |
With our clay roof tiles you can have a wide array of
different special tiles for all aspects and areas of the roof. The side
pieces for left and right have different endings, or you could have
special roof venting tiles, that allow for roof ventilation and extraction
of moisture of the roof structure. For a full line-up of the special tiles

| interlocking |
Is a special way of connecting the tiles to each other. This
has the benefit that the covered roof surface is virtually waterproof for
nature's elements. Channels on all four sides of the tile re-direct the water,
snow or even the wind into the center of the tile to be dropped down to
the next tile and eventually off the roof or into the rain gutter. Creaton
has designed their interlocking tiles to carry the "double
V" feature as side channels that grab into each other, making the
concept work even better. Interlocking also makes it hard for winds to
pick up tiles since they all form a very tightly connected surface. |
| placing on the roof |
All of our tiles are fitted with integrated hooks that lock
into the horizontal strapping. This assures a very stable hold that
still allows minimal movement of the tile if the roof structure settles.
If needed, we can supply special storm hooks that hold the tile in place
in any situation. All profiles allow the tiles to be screwed down. |
| snow retention |
Like with all roofing products, we recommend the use of
special snow stopper equipment depending on the location. On clay roof
tiles, especially the glazed ones, snow will not stay on the roof for
long. As soon as a small amount has accumulated, it tends to slide of the
roof. We can offer a complete selection of integrated snow retention
systems from simple hooks to snow fences and special barriers. All come in
a matching color to fit the color(s) of your clay tiles. |
| access to the roof |
The tiles are strong enough to carry the load of a person
walking on them, but we do not recommend for a homeowner to walk on the
roof. For safety reasons this should be left to trained personnel,
using the appropriate fall protection equipment. We carry a
complete line-up of integrated steps and platforms in matching colors, to
allow access to the roof, for example: to sweep the chimney. |
| roof ornaments |
Roof ornaments are a traditional way to beautify the roof in
Europe. You can choose from a complete line-up of different roof ornaments
to personalize your roof. For example: you can have a ceramic rooster or
sleep walker or a lion head end cap. The products are available in
matching roof colors or can be ordered to be painted on location. For
further information and a roof ornament brochure, please contact us or

ornaments samples. |
| verge tiles |
Also known as rake tiles, used at the ends of common sloped roofs.
This tile have an extra side cover that sticks out downward like an L
to cover the sides of the roof. For a picture look under special tiles. |
| apex tile |
This tile is used where more than two hips or ridges join
together. (3 way apex or 4 way apex). For a picture look under special tiles. |
| underlayment |
Is a membrane that gets spread out on the roof before the
tiles are installed. While not really necessary with the use of our tiles
(they form a impenetrable layer). Local building codes in most of
North America make it mandatory. We recommend the use of high quality
products, specifically designed for use with tiles. It should be durable
enough to keep up its performance for a long time. Please call for a list
of underlayments we have tested. |
