» Kelowna-Mission, B.C.: Bauhaus Design; DS5 in old black engobed 50 sq.

This home with a stunning view of the central Okanagan and the Okanagan Lake was heavily damaged in the 2003 Okanagan fire storm. The fact that it is still standing, is thanks to couple fire trucks stuck on its lawn. In order to save the trucks, the estate was pounded by load after load of water, dropped by helicopters on the area. This saved the house, but damaged the roof. The homeowners decided to undertake some major renovations of the heat damaged building and add some extensions to it. This also includes the installation of a permanent and fire-proof roof. The Park next door serves lots of wildlife, but also heightens the fire danger. The homeowner, which is a well known designer and architect, knows about the added benefits and value a clay tile roof has. The use of this super large tile, the DS5 (only 56 tiles per square), makes the job very fast and economical.
