FOR
THE WINE ENTHUSIASTS:
WINE
BOTTLE RACKS – made out of clay:
Historically wine was bottled into clay amphorae (Greece, Italy etc.) But
since wine is bottled into glass (for sanitary reasons), the next best thing is,
to store the glass wine bottles in a clay bottle rack. These traditional wine
bottle racks are in use in all major wineries and in a lot of wine
connoisseur households in the Old Countries.
Wine should be stored dry and dark, because wine is light sensitive. Wine
should also be stored far away from veggies, oil/gas tanks etc., because the
smells and aromas have the tendency to influence the bouquet of the wine.
One of the major criteria is a constant room temperature at about 10°C
and a humidity of 60% to max. 70%.
The benefit of using clay bottle racks is that the temperature curve
between warm and cold (day & night) is a more flatter one and so it
regulates the moisture as well. This benefits the constant temperature of wine
in bottles.
The wine bottles should be stored laying in/on wine racks, which have to
be very stable (like clay wine
bottle racks) and the bottles should be easy to identify. Every single bottle can be effortlessly accessed from the
front by pulling it out of the single rack hole.
The clay wine bottle racks are a stackable storage component and now are
available to consumers in North America. The trend in Europe goes toward
creating a family sized wine cellar in the basement out of these clay wine
bottle racks. Plus also having it as a decorative component included in a wet
bar or the kitchen.
The other uses are in resorts, restaurants and wine shops for storage and
sales presentation of wine bottles.
From a three bottle wine rack to a complete
cellar these original clay wine racks have been designed to interlock to create
a flexible and dramatic wine storage system.
The individual hexagonal sections can be stacked together in a honeycomb format,
to build into a freestanding unit, or as a feature wine rack to fit a specific
space or cellar wall.
Alternatively they can also be used individually as wine coolers. When soaked in
water, clay has a natural cooling property. Terracotta vessels have been used
for many decades in hot climates for storing & cooling water and vino.
These wine racks are made from quality terracotta clay and high fired resulting
in a durable end product.
Please Note: These are not suitable
for champagne bottles.
